Hemagé (CZE), daughter of stallion Magnus (POL), bought as a one-year-old horse to support this stallion, again confirmed that Magnus (POL) is a great father of hurdle horses. Hemagé (CZE) won her first start in an impressive way; accompanying the progress of the other offspring of Magnus (POL), Grizli (CZE), which took the second place. In the highlight of the afternoon in Pardubice, the "Zlatý Pohár Chládek and Tintěra Pardubice", De Dur (POL) took fourth place. Our other representative, Jaady (USA), ended second, along with Malcom in the hurdle race.
The daughter of Oxalana (GER), Olmaia (GER*), placed second in the second start of her on the racetrack in Most, during a horse race of the third category. In Merano, De Dur (POL) gained a valuable third place in the hurdle race and was beaten only by competitors with a lower weight. Jaady (USA) in his first start on the racetrack, in Merano, finished fifth in the hurdle race for four-year-old horses.
Despite the bookmakers’ odds, Diktys (CZE), the descendant of the great stallion, Magnus (POL), won the Sunday’s culmination of a steeplechase season in Milan, the "Grand Steeple di Milano". This confirmed that his last victory in Bratislava was not an accident. In a very fast race he pushed though to an amazing finish and, together with his jockey, Josef Váňa juior, achieved his first GR 1 victory. Masini (POL) has gained fourth position in the same race and, thanks to his previous winnings from horse races; his earnings have now topped 13 Million CZK. On Saturday in Merano, De Dur (POL), was to beat the competing Sun Court, in a tight finish fight for victory, after a health-related break.
Bad luck accompanies Hastaven (FR) to the Grand Pardubice. Hastaven (FR) has started three times in the most difficult steeplechase of the year, the Grand Pardubice, and though he has managed to clear the most demanding obstacle, the Great Taxis Ditch, each time, he has never reached the finish line. In his first start in the Grand Pardubice he was pulled up in the final third of the race after suffering an injury; last year he lost his rider before the Irish Pew, and this year his jockey again fell off during the race. Hastaven (FR) entered the race as the winner of one of the qualification events, beating stable mate and two-time Grand Pardubice winner Registana (GER). After Registana (GER) and Red Dancer (FR) were forced out due to injuries, Hastaven (FR) was the lone representative of our stables. He held the lead from the start, clearing Taxis Ditch without any troubles. But after the ride through the forest he lost his rider in one of the jumps, ending all hopes. After the fall of another favourite, Maskula, the race was won by Decent Fellow with Josf Bartoš aboard. We had mixed success in the other races on the programme. Sun Set (POL) finished second in the Vltava Trophy, a cross-country steeplechase over 4 500 m. In the Chládek and Tiňtěra of Pardubice Trophy – the Golden Belt for three-year-olds Seven Rings (CZE), an offspring of Magnus (POL) and Sesi (CZE), finished third in front of stable mate De Dur (POL). Treviso (POL) suffered an injury and did not finish his first race.
Sunday’s meeting in Milan proved unlucky for our stables as we tried to defend two victories from last year in Grade 1 races. Last year’s winner of the Grade 1 Gran Steeplechase di Milano Kolorado (POL) fell along with Nero three obstacles before the finish line while jumping over a loose bar. Though it was possible to remount Kolorado (POL), last year’s champion finished fifth. His stable mate Sun Set (POL) finished fourth behind another Czech horse, Pesso. Things turned out even worse in the second Grade 1 race of the day – the Gran Corsa Siepi di Milano. Last year’s defending champion Duce (POL) fell along with Lark (CZE) and did not finish the race. Unfortunately Lark (CZE), the second best hurdler after Duce (POL) last year, fell so badly that this was the last race of his life. In the end the race was annulled. The lone success was Daquan’s fourth place finish in the Premio Siepi Dei 4 anni. Two of our three-year-old hopefuls ran last weekend in the Czech Republic. At the Most racetrack on Saturday De Dur (POL) finished sixth in the Dr. Frankenberger Memorial and on Sunday in Chuhle Seven Rings (CZE) finished fourth in the Sklo Bohemia Trophy.
