This delicate chestnut horse was bought by Wrbna Racing as a two-year-old, at the time she has already placed third once. The reason for this purchase was mainly her fine origin, because she is a sister of a stallion Oxalagu who was a multiple group winner in Germany and a breeding horse. Such a mare wouldn't be commonly available for sale, but we managed to get her because she had troubles with nutritional state.
She proved her talent as a three-year-old in her first start when she won Stříbrný pohár (NL) in Slušovice. Then she started in České derby (GR.3) but she didn't do very well and placed ninth. Then she placed fifth in both following Czech and Slovak Oaks (L) and wasn't as successful as expected.
She underwent surgery in the winter of 2002 that relieved her of digestive problems but she still had troubles with shape. As a four-year-old she repeated a victory at the beginning of the season in Slušovice. During the following four starts, nothing predicated that she would improve. Therefore her second place in St.Leger (NL) in Pardubice in the autumn behind Zagon was a big surprise and she earned a nomination for the Central European Breeder's Cup Classic (Gr.1) in Bratislava, where she proved her previous success with a third place among an international company.
These results were a reason to give her a chance on the racing course once again when she was five years old. And she hasn't disappointed us. Her performance improved in 2003. After placing in Velká májová cena, Velká cena Slovenska (Gr.3) and a second place in Zlatý pohár (L) in Prague, she won even it's equivalent in Slovakia.
She managed to get a scalp of a derby winner Ohne Sorge in Cena Velké Moravy (NL). We wanted to crown the end of her career with a good result abroad and therefore Oxalana traveled to Baden-Baden to start in Badener Steher Cup (L). Unfortunately, transport technique failed completely and our mare that doesn't like traveling had to spend more than 24 hours on a trolley and the travel stress was reflected in the results of the race - she came sixth.
She ran her career's last race in Wielka Warszawska (Gr.3). She was very nervous before the start and placed only fourth, later third because of the winner's doping disqualification.
It's worth mentioning that Oxalana started all the 19 times with a first category and better company, she won three races with a NL status and one Listed. She placed third twice in races Gd.3 and Gd.1.
Breeding
At the end of 2003 Oxalana and Sweet Answer (GB) moved to the German Etzean horse farm to begin her breeding career. At the beginning of the following year she was mated with Sholokhov (IRE) and on 27 January 2005 at 4 a.m. she gave birth to her first offspring – a chestnut named Olmaia (GER*).
