Darsalam, a winner of the Czech and Austrian derby, and the Czech and German Saint Leger, was declared the best horse of 2004. Neither our horses got lost in a poll, announced on the Czech turf's gala evening. Registana (GER) placed second and Masini (POL) placed third. In addition to this, Registana (GER) was declared the best steepler of the season.
Another awards went to our horses:
Czech turf and also Wrbna Racing stable succeeded in the finishing Italian fence season. Wrbna Racing representative Masini (POL) placed first on the list of fence horses in the 2004 season in Italy and earned 246 975 €. He triumphed in Italy right in two races Gd. 1 - GRANDE STEEPLE CHASE DI MILANO and Premio LXV GRAN PREMIO MERANO FORST. Another Czech horse, Dr. Charvát's Manou, came second. He earned 117 470 € altogether on the Italian racing-courses. Two more of our horses got into the first 30 of the wealthiest horses - Registana (GER) (47 175 €) placed 20th and Kolorado (POL) (45 050 €) ranked two places below. Another horse, trained in the Czech Republic, placed 23rd - Dellan (44 625 €).
Závodisko Bratislava officially published the results of a traditional balance poll at a press conference on Thursday. For the first time in Slovak history, both gallop awards went to horses of one stable and wards of one trainer according to the votes of 93 owners, trainers, officers and journalists. Award Flat horse of the Year went to Arganta (GER) who won four times out of five starts, among others Cena Trojročných kobýľ, Oaks, Saint Leger, and once she came second. Thereby she defended last year's Tankred's victory, who came second this year. He hasn't lost once on a racing-course but hasn't finished the season due to an injury. Award Fence horse of the Year went to Big Six (IRE) who wasn't defeated once within his five starts in Bratislava. The prestigeous award The Trainer of the Year therefore went to the trainer of both of the champions Čestmír Olehla. Jaroslav Línek became the Rider of the Year. The poll results are available on Bratislava's racing-course website Horse of year 2004. We were doing quite well even in the 12 other subcategories. Tankred (POL) won the Best Endurance Runner category, Arganta (GER) placed second and Zagon placed third; Arganta (GER) was declared the Best Three-Year-Old Mare and Tankred (POL) was declared the Best Four-Year-Old and Older Stallion (Gelding). In this category, Scyris, Zagon and Tribal Instinct placed as well. Sara (POL) placed second in the Best Four-Year-Old and Older Mare category and King Marc placed fourth among the three-year-old stallions. You can find the detailed results on Bratislava's racing-course website Best horses 2004.
Registana (GER) didn't prolong the victorious series in Cheltenham, England. In the Sporting Index Chase, 6200 m cross country, rider Gehm deviated from the course two fences before the finish line and set the route to victory free for Spot The Difference (English) with McNamara in saddle.
Our eight-year-old mare ran very well in this dramatic race. Gehm performed trainer Olehla's tactical instructions accurately and remained on the second or third position for the whole time, not more than four units behind the leading horse. In the last lap Registana (GER) took the initiative and was in advance of three lengths. That, however, contributed to a fatal mistake two fences before the finish line. It's a pity because she was very close to a historical victory in the horse-racing birthplace, England.
Except for Registana (GER), not even the second Czech representative Kyrton with Pavel Složil in saddle finished the race.
Registana (GER) with Peter Gehm defended her last year's triumph in the most prestigious Czech fence race of the season, the 114. volume VP steeplechase. This highly favored brown horse came in for this year's victory in the record time of 9:15,48 minutes, style start-finish.
Registana (GER) became a leader right after the start and started with a high pace. She was the first one to jump over the most difficult setback, Taxis' ditch, and coped with it without a problem (just like all the other horses). She remained a leader only with short exceptions for the rest of the race. In the final phase, she repelled Retriever with rider Váňa in saddle and entered the home straight in advance of more then 3 lengths. After taking the last fence she worked up the advance a little without using the riding whip. She won in a 9 lengths advance, second was Retriever, third Decent Fellow and fourth Maskul. Laneret, another trainer Olehla's ward, came fifth.
Trainer Čestmír Olehla claimed the sixth victory in VP to his name. With four victories with Železník and two with Registana, he is the most successful trainer in the history of this race.
Only the relapsed injury of Hastaven (FR) overshadowed Registana's victory. Her stable colleague and training partner was doing more than well during his first appearance in VP. He cleared the feared Taxis' ditch splendidly and remained in the front of the starting field for the first two thirds of the race. However, he had to be stopped less than 2 kilometers due to his injury.
In the general races, our other horses introduced themselves. Kolorado (POL) managed well with all his rivals in the Plynostav Pardubice Crystal Cup hurdle race. Duce (POL) and Sadomis (POL) came second and third in the PARAMO, Inc. Prize – Richard Davis Memorial steeplechase. Chrisanta (CZE) came fourth in the first Sunday race, Zlatá spona tříletých - Chládek and Tintěra Company Prize and fourth was also Montero (POL) in the CKP Chrudim Company Prize for the two-year-old horses on the day before.
